From our friends at Children's Alliance:"A victory you helped achieve is threatened.
The big soda companies are pouring money into an initiative that would rollback new revenue measures - the same measures that helped to save health care for kids.
Taxing candy and pop is a win-win for Washington's kids. Candy and pop don't nourish kids' bodies. The new revenue is funding public services that kids and families need, like Apple Health for Kids and Working Connections Child Care.
Initiative 1107 would cost our state hundreds of millions in lost revenue over the next two years, and would lead to further deep budget cuts. It is heavily funded by the national beverage industry, and would slash the funds coming from the taxes on soda pop, candy, gum, and bottled water.
Advocates for kids were leading voices in the passage of this new revenue. Don't let this accomplishment be cut down now.
We urge you to DECLINE TO SIGN Initiative 1107, and to make sure your family, friends and colleagues know that these initiatives would hurt your community. You can read more about Initiative 1107, and the other initiatives Children's Alliance has taken a position on at our website."
